Our Story

GREAT TREKKER’S INC was formed in 2022 out of necessity by an immigrant family from Southern Africa. 

Linda, a descendant of Khoisan people in Southern Africa, learnt to make beef biltong when helping in her grandmother’s business in the 1970s. She sold biltong as a meat snack in Soweto, South Africa. Due to her young age at the time, some people felt that it was child labor. As a grown up, Linda produced and sold  biltong using modern methods in her own business in Botswana, from 1995.

For the love of the high protein meat snack, biltong, the family tried the American beef jerky upon immigrating to the USA in 2017, as a close alternative.  The beef jerky was found to be hard to chew and less tasty, along with too many additives and unnecessary sugar.  To create a healthy alternative for her family, Linda produced biltong. She then also experimented  on beef jerky using African spices while leaving out the sugar. Eureka! The taste buds loved that beef jerky!

GREAT TREKKER’S biltong, is completely air-dried, keeping its  nutrients intact. It also has no artificial additives and is completely sugar-free. GREAT TREKKER’S jerky is a more delicious and healthier alternative to the traditional American beef jerky.
